Carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers can cut thin sheets of various materials such as:
- MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard)
- Magnetic sheet
- Cloth (leather, suede, felt, hemp, cotton)
- ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene)
- Depron foam
- EPR (Ethylene propylene Rubber) foam
Any materials containing chlorine is not safe to cut due to fumes, e.g: polycarbonate, PVC, vinyl.
Glass cannot be cut as well, it can only be engraved. Polystyrene (Styrofoam) is known to start fires which are difficult to put out so avoid cutting it. Cutting metal and reflective surfaces can reflect the laser back into the tube which can damage it.
